Problem w/central air unit

I have a Miller central air unit, Model MSC-42E-G2 that it will run and blow cold air and then the fan stops running, any ideas. Been told it could be the fan motor or the compacitor.

Is mom mechanically inclined enough to do some basic checks with the blower fan? Access the blower compartment and see if the squirrel cage freely spins, easily. And to make sure the squirrel cage does not have any play in it if you grab it on the side the motor is NOT on, and try to wiggle it side-to-side and up and down [some 'end play' (in and out) slop is normal].

Then see if the capacitor (may be a round or ovular shape metal thing that may have 2 brown wires going from the motor to it) is bulged or in any way does not look like new.

Then come back and let us know what you found so far.

IF these things all seem okay, then this will require capacitor and motor testing.
