How to quiet A/C air intake?

My wife and I just moved into our house; the A/C works great and cools off the house but the air intake vent in the living room is really loud, so much so that it drowns out the TV with the volume way up. My guess is that a solution might be to lower the fan speed, but I'm not sure how to do that.

It is a DUCANE HVAC system, not sure the model number. Any help or other suggestions for quieting it down would be appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

The problem could be caused by a multitude of things - poor design, the vanes on the vent, obstructon, etc. Regarding the blower speed, that may too be an option, however there is a certain limit as to how low it can go (a certain amount of air needs to pass over the furnace and A/C coils).

I'd take a look at the vent, because from reading these forums I've seen a few stories of people who altered the position of the vanes on the duct.

Good luck.
