Unhappy Please Help Me!!!!!!!!!! Asap

My outside fan doesnt turn on i can leave it off all night and it will come on for a few minutes and then gets really hot.. ive tried manually spinning the fan to make it turn on it will try but doesnt turn on, but does spin freely, just makes noises like its trying to come on then makes a hissing noise I assume this is a pressure realease valve noise? sometimes turn the thing on and off and the outside does nothing at all sometimes just noises ?????? please help in southern cal.. 110 in my house!!!!!!!!!! is it most likely the fan motor or maybe a capasitor? i have 3 years commercial electrical experience and can do it no prob if i only new the prob. there a black tube that says torque and the top has came off and can see wires in there ... on the wall there is a large black square box i can pull out which has 2 delay fuses that look like shotgun shells?? any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably is the capacitor.

When I click the little blue button on the top of the page labled "NEW POST", works fine.

Have you ohmed out the fuses?....verify voltage to contactor in and out voltages?...as was mentioned, could be a capacitor.

yes i have checked the fuses and used voltage meter to test. I am now almost positive it is the condenser motor and not the capasitor because if i leave it off for an hour or more it will come on for about 10-20 minutes then gets hot shuts off and all the material ive read says it wont come on at ALL if the capasitor is out..

From afar with a free service call, I'd agree the motor is probably shot...the windings are most likely getting hot and it's dropping out on internal protection. If you are handy, shouldn't be a big deal. If you're not, call some that can do it for you.

yea Im hoping it will fix everything I am an electrician, so im pretty confident I can do the install without any problems, but do you think i should go ahead and change out the capasitor while im at it.. Also do u know if the condenser motor capasitor is the small odd shaped one rather than the 6 inch tall tube shaped ones 1 is silver and 1 is black and says torque multiplier 1-10 H.P. the little one is also silver and says nothing but its the one making a noise after i shut it off.. and has wires going straight to the motor.

I was taught my trade by a guy that was in hvac and was a licensed electrician....he said "Always start with a new matching cap, with a new motor."....Caps are cheap. I seldom come across a unit where there isn't enough room to mount a second small cap. By doing it this way and wiring like the diagram on the motor, you "shouldn't" go wrong. Edit...the black one is your start cap. That tells me you most likely have a txv system, but not guaranteed....the smaller cap is most likely the motor run for your fan. Again, free service call. If you think you might screw it up, call someone who won't.

The little one - GOING STRAIGHT TO THE MOTOR- is most likely the fan motor capacitor. Since it is actually connected to said motor.

If the cap is weak or shorted it may well allow the motor to run.

Motor is shutting down on internal overload. Which points to motor and or capacitor.

Never change a motor and not also change the cap.

Save cash, try the cap first, then if need be change the motor.

No caps on your service truck?
