Smile Condenser fan doesn't come on

When I turn my ac on the handler comes on, but the outside condenser does not, it makes a buzzing sound. If I give the fan a push, it will run, but not full strength. and will shut off 15-20 mins, later. Is this sound like i need a new fan motor, or could it be something else, like the contactor. I did replace the two fuses and the contactor is fairly new. thanks

While I can't help resolve the problem, I wish you luck. I was going to post an identical problem but then saw your thread.

I watch with interest and hope someone can help...

Not an A/C pro, but....

Probably the capacitor from the sounds of it. $20 or so to find out. These kinds of problems have been very common last month or so on here.

You shouldn't run it with a fan that stops, it can damage your compressor. And the constant trying to start of the compressor can cause damage as well.

Turn off power by pulling disconnect or throwing breakers, wait a few minutes, discharge cap by touching across terminals with a screwdriver. Make note of where wires are attached. Go to HVAC supply, get replacement.

Well, wish my arms were longer, I'd pat myself on the back..lol

Glad it worked, those were pretty standard symptoms though, so credit goes to all the other posters on this site.
