Fixing my A/C, need parts recommendations

After some reading here and piddling with my broken A/C unit, looks like the exterior fan motor is bad and the capacitor is iffy. The Fan will only turn with some effort, and while trouble-shooting it actually turned a little bit. However, the AC is only blowing regular air, not cool.

It seems the local recommendation is to replace the capacitor while you replace the fan, and given the rust on the contacts that seems a good idea.

So I'm off in search of parts. The fan is an Emerson K55HXMMB-4296, 1/10 HP @208-230 VAC. The capacitor is a GE Z97F9021.

Should I look for exact replacements or are there better equivalent models for a modest budget?

Try taking the motor to an A/C supply house. They should be able to match it up. Be sure to get same voltage, rotation, rpm, and amps.

Never change a motor or compressor without also changing the capacitor. Not to do so is both asking for trouble and wasting the money you had already spent on the big money parts.
