Carrier Infinity with existing duct work

Hi -

I have 6 carrier infinity systems from a project that I ended up not using them. I need new systems for my current house and for the addition we just put an addition on. I would REALLY like to use these systems in my house but have heard that they may not work with existing duct work as they may be two small and cause a static pressure issue that will shut down the units. My house was built is 2000 and has two 5 ton trane systems in it. The addition is large (3000 sq ft) and calls for 4 more 3 and 3.5 ton systems. The addition was just ducted but for trane units planned. Please let me know your thoughts and experience with this.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Dave-

Hey Bob,

Something you may look into is Infinity Zoning
You would have to modify your duct a little for the zones.
But there is nothing like the Infinity or the Bryant's version Evolution Zone Control. Plus you would be using at least the 4 ton Infinity system.

The Infinity Zone control with the duct modifications if the duct is accessible should be less than a 5 Ton XLi Trane System.
It would be best to call a Carrier Authorized Dealer or a Bryant Authorized Dealer to see what they have to say. Since they could actually look at your duct.

Infinity

You are close enough in difference of the equipment size to the ductwork size. You can make up the difference by minor resizing of the existing duct. Someone who knows what they are doing needs to make that determination though.
