Fan

The a/c system outside kicks on and off like it should. The system in the attic (fan) keeps running. I have had to shut the breaker off to shut the fan off. There is a new thermostat also.

Thanks,
Henry

Hi Henry:

Is the thermostat fan switch is set to auto? Did the problem exist before the thermostat was replaced? Can you post the brand and the model # of the attic unit? What kind of heat do you have? Gas? Oil? Heat Pump? Electric Heat?

The A/C unit is a Trane Mod# TWRO24C100A1, and the Air Handler is a American Standard Mod# TW4024B140A1. The thermostat is on auto, the thermostat is a Honeywell that we put in.

The problem exited before the thermostat was replaced, it is
a heat pump. My son replaced the thermostat, it was the old mercury switch type. The air handler looks loke a 2 way.

In the air handler you'l find a blower relay or maybe a sequencer. It sounds like the contact points inside whatever operates the blower motor are welded closed.

Air Handler

The A/C folks came out and looked. He said the unit is not putting out like it should. That the fan keeps running because the room temp cannot keep up!!! If the A/c is cutting off, the fan keeps running even when it hits room temp, relay!!!! You can set the thermostat to 81 from 78 and the air handler will shut off. They want to replace the unit because they said by the time the temp catches up to the room temp, the thermostat kicks in again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I am understanding correctly, I hope you didn't pay these guys. Like many companies they just send out someone to sell sell sell!

If the outside unit is shutting off and the temperature inside at the stat is satisfied, then the problem here is the relay sticking.
