Water the condenser unit during the hot day.
A neighbor told me turn the sprinkler on to water the A/C Condenser during the hot summer afternoon will help the A/C system a lot .. Is that true ? help in what way ?

It seems to make sense on the surface...like pouring water over the coils on an overheating car radiator to help it cool own. But thats a once in a lifetime thing (hopefully). Spraying water on the coils of your condenser unit will cause corrosion and mineral buildup and early failure. Maybe distilled water could be used (some people believe that), but it's not the way the unit was designed to operate.

Thanks, I guess you are correct, I forgot the hard water may cause corrosion or buildup. But if the theory is right, then may be a tree or some sort of shade will help. I tested, the temperature difference is about 12-15 degree between in the shade and under the sun. But still don't know what kind of help we are talking about. (save electricity ? or longer life of the unit ? or may be one size smaller is enough to cool the house, or......)
