Central Air Conditioner Gets Really Hot

We have an older central air conditioner and it gets very hot after it's running for a while.

How hot are central air conditioners supposed to get?

I don't want it to blow up or break down or anything.

Thanks.

What "exactly" gets hot?

How hot, can you keep your hand on it?

Can you post pics?

Thanks for your reply.

I'm going to leave it running for about 10 minutes and see if I can keep my hand on it.

The first thing you need to do is remove all those vines from around the unit and have the condenser coil cleaned.

That old beast probably does get fairly warm. A good cleaning would help. A new unit would help even more and may even pay for itself in 5 years or so.
