Cool Which is better Fan-Motor ? OEM-Emerson or AO Smith

Hello,

My Ruud Achiever 10 Seer outside Condenser has a bad Emerson Fan-Motor.

I've been trying to find a replacement Emerson Fan-Motor locally so I know the new fan-motor will fit. No luck so far.
I'm also having a hard time removing the existing fan blade.

I've decided to have a Professional A/C-person fix my fan-motor.

However he recommends AO Smith, which is cheaper than the Emerson.

AO Smith is not listed on the Emerson website as a replacement fan-motor:

Anyone have good/bad experience with AO Smith ?

Peace,
GR

AO Smith is a good motor. I prefer OEM motors for outdoor units.

Some universal motors are longer than the OEM motor that they must replace, causing the fan blade to operate lower in your unit. This can cause higher head pressure in cool mode.

You want the air to discharge from the top of your unit. If the blade is to low, it can cause some of the air to discharge from the side of the unit (which is the air inlet).

Cool

Hello,

Problem resolved.

I could not get the blade off the bad fan-motor.

After searching and looking for a replacement fan-motor.

I decided to have an A/C fix my motor.

A new A.O. Smith fan-motor was installed (5-wires, vs. 3-wires old fan-motor), new 7.5mfd capacitor. Maintenance/Service of entire AC System.

Even the A/C Professional had a hard time getting the blade off.

Total cost was $250.

Other quotes were as high as $400-$500.

A/C is back on, but fortunately the weather has been cool, since the A/C broke.

Today was 77.

Peace,
GR

That was a very good price.
Does it feel like the condenser air is only discharging from the top?

I agree $250 for a new mtr and maintenance is a steal in my area. New mtr is probobly a rescue mtr, A O Smith makes fine motors.
