Blank Vent Cover?

Hi Guys,

I am in the process of finishing my basement. Currently I have a register that is facing the window, (not sure why one was installed this way?) The duct work will be under a soffit and I was wondering if it were okay to Cover this register with something.

I was thinking of just getting a piece of sheet metal or something, is this correct?

If it will not be used why not remove the duct?

It's not ment to face the window but rather turn down and wash the wall. Supplys wash the outer walls, returns are from the center.

Yes, you can terminate but may end up with a cold spot.
