how to remove Jammed filter in heating/cooling system?

I went to replace my AC filter here at home and it seems to somehow be stuck. It seems like the metal wiring on the filter is holding on to something inside the AC filter area? I tried slowly working it out but no luck. Any suggestions on the best method of removing it?

it happens on occasion...

usually by not changing it often enough. It gets loaded with dirt and becomes deformed by the constant pull of the fan... Try brute force and a pair of pliers. Make sure the air handler fan is off, because this disturbance will dislodge dirt from the filter as you pull it out in pieces. Vac out the residual dirt with a crevice tool. Clean the trap while your there... Don't be tempted to run it without a filter. You won't believe how expensive it is to resolve that oversight.
