Silencing a Payne 5 ton Compressor?

Hey guys,

I had my outdoor 1970s carrier 5 ton condenser unit replaced a couple of years ago with a Payne 5 ton condenser unit and I noticed the compressor has always been obnoxiously loud. It works perfectly fine but loud. Is there a safe way to "muffle" the compressor noise? I have been searching through ebay and found compressor filter/silencers but wasn't sure if it was safe to use on my 5 ton compressor.

Any advice? Will these filter/silencers damage my compressor or make it overheat?

Neighbors aren't complaining about the noise but it just seems too loud whenever I'm in my backyard, the sound is a bit annoying if I'm out on the grill with friends over in the backyard. Any advice would be great.

I would call or email Payne and ask them what they recommend.
