I have a Carrier Infinity heat pump that is about seven years old. I am having a condensate water leak all over my floor. This unit is installed in my hall closet. I took the front cover off & cleaned the coils & poured water in to drip pan to clean it out, I don't think the pan is cracked & the drain is not stopped up anywhere either. The problem seems to be that the water is not running out of the drip pan into the pvc drain line. I don't know if I was suppose to do this, but I turned the air back on while I had the front cover off to see if I could trace the leak. I let it run for about 20 mins. and it never leaked, the water ran out the drip pan into the drain line just fine while the cover was off. When I put the front cover back on, the condensate water will not run out of the drip pan into the drain line anymore....just goes all over the floor! If anyone knows what's going on, I would greatly appreciate an answer.
Thanks! Kim

Stop the A/C and blower, see if the water in the pan run out ? If it does, then may be the drain pipe is clogged (not 100%, but enough to creat sucking pressure in the drain pipe)

The system is 7 years old, it must be OK for 7 years. Has anything changed lately to cause this problem ? Again, does water run out after the blower is stopped ?

This is a strange one. Here are some questions:
1. Does the water gointo drip pan at all when you close the front cover. do you see any water in the drip pan after you open the cover ?
2. Water does not even drip into drip pan when you close the cover. so after you run your A/C for 20 minutes, no water in the pan when you open the cover.
3. Close the cover 90%, may be you can see what is going on in there.

I really can't see inside the drip pan...I just watch for the water to drip out into the pvc drain line, which I have taken part of it loose, so I can see if the water is coming out.

If the water wasn't getting into the pan when the cover is on...what would be causing that? Would that have to do with the slope that hvactechfw is referring to? I need to charge my camera battery before I can take pic.

because I poured water into the edge of it where the fins meet, that's the only part of it that I can see. I kept pouring in the water until it was clear. It did have a few sediments in the water at first, but not much.

This is a hard one. like you said, trace the leak. you said all over the floor, but where is exactly the water leaks out ? put a couple of pictures here, may be we can figure out something.

Wait, I forgot ask you one thing. Does your primary drain pipe have a p-trap and/or an open cleaning valve. Since open and close the cover make it work differently, I can't think anything else but the 'pressure' in the air handler. (and I hope your return air vent is not blocked in anyway)

Sorry, can not help you. You may have to call a AC tech to find the problem. I have heard these type of problems before. most of them caused by altered air flow.

same kind of problem
I have a very similar problem we recently bought a new filter for the unit. Then all the sudden it started leaking from what seems to be the drip pan, it is so hard to locate where it is leaking because when you take the cover off it quits leaking. If I leaave the cover slighty off it doesnt leak at all, but my coils froze after that. I ran it without filter for awhile thought maybe it wasnt getting enough air, but it still leaks just not as much. Any ideas at all i'm get so frustrated with it. Thank you

Same Carrier leak
I have the same problem with my Carrier Infinity. Water in floor pan. AC air is working properly. The drain was not clogged, in fact I removed the entire pvc pipe from the AC to the drain, still no clog. I did have a clogged air filter after installing a good quality filter, at the same time I noticed water in my pan. I replaced the filter and shut off ac for 24 hours. I inspected inside unit and everything looked clean. However I was not able to see inside the collection tray ? that collects the condensation just before draining the water outside of the unit. However I did inspect the pipe for clogs with a tube and copper wire, still no clog. Restarted AC and still have water in the floor pan (Water is also exiting pipe). My theory is that the leak is occurring on the collection pan (Which I am unable to see at this point) or at the conjunction between the collection pan and the exit pipe. If that is the case, some water would exit out the pipe (which it does) and some would run down the inside of the unit to the floor pan.
If anyone has had this similar problem with their Carrier unit please post, thus we may be able to determine a design/ part flaw and fix it.
Any advice on how to remove or inspect the condensation collection tray? Or how to remove/fix the connection between pipe and collection tray inside of unit.
Thanks

dirty fins and design problem
I just have exactly same problem, and I believe it is cause by the dirty fins of the condenser. I cleaned it before I started using this summer, it worked well for about 2 weeks, now it started leak - water dropped to the pan not the collection pan. I am going to buy a metal sheet to make a flow guide to guide the flow to the collection pan. Hope this works.
Looks like there is a design problem - the collection pan is too small to cover the whole area.
BTW, did you find a solution yet?
Thanks.

Just came accross this in search of an answer to dripping coil.
So my system is only 1 year and 4 months old it bryant( basically carrier as they bought them out) and it started to drip from condenser coil onto an air filter this summer few months ago.
I've had service tech come out he cleaned it but no change, I've called couple more hvac companies and explained the problem and they just don't want get involved. Called Bryant they said to contact authorized dealer gave me a list, have to wait a little to prepare financially before I schedule an appointment as I expect the worst ( new coil or even air handler).
It's a split system ( compressor outside, up flow air handler inside the closet, slab/slanted coil at about 45 degree angle. Some condensation drips into drip pan but some just randomly drops right off the coil onto air fillter.
And yes drain line is clear and the p trap is installed.
Anyone find solution to this problem , please, please let us know !!

I'm going to basically repeat the last poster. I'm looking for answers to this question, water dripping directly from coil through the rest of the unit and not going into drip pan.
Not sure if this is a recent development or if we just noticed it.
If anyone has thoughts on this I'd love to hear them.
My next steps are to try to clean the coil and fins, but I'm not super hopeful after over research.
