Capacitor or Compressor Bad
Technician came to fix AC unit outside. Compressor wasn't kicking in, but fan was. He put a booster on the capacitor and it made the compressor go on. After running for about 10 minutes, he turned the unit off to put back together. Finished putting the unit back together and I turned the unit on from the thermostat and the compressor did not turn on, but the fan did!!!!! Any advice on whether the compacitor is bad or the compressor?? He ordered a new compressor for my unit!! Thanks for any advice. Failed to mention that when I turned it on yesterday, the compressor kicked in and the other day, it buzzed really loud and then finally kicked in. So, I can get it to work sometimes and sometimes it takes a few minutes before the compressor will kick in, but with that buzzing sound before doing so. thanks

Hard to say, can be anything. Ususally buzzing sound come from the contactor. If I were you, I replace capacitor and contactor first (because they are cheap, and if you put a new compressor in there, you should put in a new capacitor and new contactor anyway), if that does not fix your problem, then go for the compressor. (How old is the unit ?)

Actually, they are scheduled to replace the TVX(??) valve in the evap cooler and the compressor. They say the TVX valve is what's making it hard for the compressor to kick in??

Well, I assume this is still under warranty, let them play I guess. If not, I'll get a second opinion before I do anything. ( the way they repair things is not logical, looks to me they are trying to make money from the maker of the unit)
