A/C wall unit is blowing out hot air every now and then.

We've had our A/C for more than 5 years now and it has been working very well. In our room we have a 60 inch projector tv and a sound system that makes it very hot so we use the A/C almost constantly. For the last couple of months though, when the outside temp gets high our A/C tends to blow hot air for about 5 minutes then it sounds like something hits it and then it blows hot air for another 10 minutes. It has gotten worse as the Summer heat is getting higher, seems like it is hotter inside than outside.

Can this be a electrical surge problem? (More power in the neighborhood may be causing it to shut off like this), or is it time for a new one?

Thanks

If it is a 120V wall unit, its time for a new one. If its a 240V wall unit, it may be worth trying to save.... Depends either way on the cost of repair VS. replacement.

how does it run when it's 75-85 outside....might need a good cleaning outside is it near an dryer vent or when was the last time a hose was taken to it from the inside out with the power off......next time it runs note the days temp and let us know what the thin raw copper line feels like coming out of the condenser outside fancompressor section...don't need to remove a panel it is touchable from the lines out of the condenser.....looking for slightly warm on a 80 day...super hot need a cleaning
