Can I run heat if AC compressor fan not working?

Greetings All,

I have a Bryant model 564ANX036000ABAF AC and in the fall the compressor fan stopped working. It wasn't a problem since the weather was cool even here in Florida. Now the weatherman is predicting 25 degree lows and I am wondering if I can run the heat with the compressor fan not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year,

Glen

No....Not only will your system not work very well without the air movement across the coils...you could burn up the comp.

At most the parts to fix whatever is wrong (assuming its the motor or cap) is about $75. A lot cheaper than a new comp or entire new system.

Thanks. I didn't think I should, but I got 50/50 yes/no response from people I asked, so I tried here. I was told the problem is most likely the capacitor and I found new ones for it on eBay for $14.99.

564A - Physical Data

Looks like this is not a heat pump.
You can heat your house without the condenser fan.
(I'd still fix it...)

Looks like it has a 1/4hp 1100 rpm condenser fan motor.
Sounds like the HC39GE237 that Carrier likes for 3 to 5 ton units 10 seer to 12.

Well, Duh....

I thought it was an HP from the info I could find. If not, then I agree with what Houston said.

Yes you can, but you should not!
Efficiency of outside coil will be terrible......................
Cold freon coming from inside unit will freeze outside coil....................
Efficency will get even lower.

Suggestion.
In a pinch, turn off compressor, run unit on emergency heat only.
Fix fan to prevent damage to unit and restore normal operation.
If critical, set up an external fan to run over outside coil until repairs can be made.

DIY404165....Welcome to the Forums.

If you read further...it appears this isn't an HP, so the outside unit isn't used in heat mode.
