wiring central a/c

wiring central a/c

i read online that i need to run 10/2 wire for my central a/c unit.what i want to know what happened to the neutral wire? i thought all 220 volt circuits have 3 wire two hot legs and a neutral.what happened to the white leg

220 needs 2 hot legs and a bare wire for ground. There is NO neutral. Neutral is for 110.
