Question Window A/C Fan

I have a 5000btu window unit that is a older unit that woks very very well. My question is can I take the fan and wire it to the compressor or thermostat so when the units compressor shut down the fan also turns off. Right now the fan runs all the time and the compressor starts and stops when the t-stat tells it to.

Yes, if you know what you are doing. But if you do that, it won't keep the temperatur correctly. when you set for 75F, it won't start until 80F because the air is not moving. To make it right, you need to keep the fan at low speed while compressor is not running so you won't be bothered by the fan noise.
