will a bad compressor taint your freon...

and make the freon unuseable? a service guy told me that my compressor is bad and because it is bad that it tainted my freon. is this true?

It depends on the kind of compressor failure. Mechanical, electrical, burn-out? AN acid test would tell you for sure. But why take the chance if you are replacing the compressor or putting a new unit in. That is a lot of money on either to risk with possible contaminated refrigerant.
