Thermostat not working right - is New furnace problem??

In fall had to have old furnace replaced - Got a Luxaire -single blower motor - don't like. Anyway, didn't change our programable thermostat at that time - thermostat worked fine over winter. Switched thermostat to AC and the thermostat doesn't work correctly. It doesn't shut off the AC like it should it's set for 80 degrees to shut off and at 75 it (AC) was still running and I had to click the temperature to over 85 before it would shut off.

a. thermostat broke?
b. Is there something that needs to be changed on the furnace motor?
c. Are they incompatible?
Advice needed. Thanks
