Central Air Compressor doesn't shut off

I have an older Amana central air unit and the compressor stays on and freezes up the A coil. I read previously that there is a large relay or something to that effect that needs to be replaced. I remember several years ago a repairman scraped rust off some kind of contactor, which is probably the offending part. I can't remember the name of the part so that I can try to locate a replacement part. Can you help?

Shut the breaker to the air handler or furnace.

If the outdoor unit continues to run, the contactor is bad. (call tech to replace it)

Shut off the breaker to the outdoor unit to prevent compressor damage.
