Found a wire inside my AC?

Hey,

So I found a black wire inside my AC. The wire seems to be coming from the keypad (where you can change the temperature, mode, etc). You can see the wire when you open up the front of the AC in order to clean out the little dust collector.

Can the wire be hazardous in any way? It's a black wire that leads inside the keypad (But I can't see where, just slips through the bottom corner. The wire wasn't connected anywhere before (at least that's what it seems like). It seems to be wrapped as in the wire wasn't cut and the cooper never peeled out.

So yeah, I'm kinda clueless now. Any help would be great!

Thanks.

If you're talking about a window unit, it sounds to me like the temperature sensor in front of the evaporator. Don't mess with it, it's supposed to be there. I'm no expert though.
