Have I just destroyed a 500$ 2 year old Kenmore 18k BTU Air Conditioner??

so, the front panel was missing a screw
I went and got one, unfortunately just a bit to long.
idiot.

It punctured one of the coils on the evaporator, right near the side of the unit, tiny little hole but big enough. Hsssssss

So, I called sears. New evap is ~$100, plus a couple hours of labor minimum. Somewhere between $300 and $400.

I dont see why it can't just be fixed, but poking around and I see that it needs to be brazed not soldered. I have sweated many, many pipes. Used to be a carpenter. Looks like I can get cheap brazing torch, fuel and some silver brazing alloy for

It mostly will cost more to fix it. You will need a dryer $15, and a couple of service valves $10 both at cost nitrogen, vac pump, plus a tech for 3 plus hours at $65 plus an hour then refegerent.

Not worth fixing unless you can get someone to do it for free.

you cant charge the system yourself which will cost as others have said... its not worth fixing. Put it on Craigslist and someone that can fix it cheap will buy it. You wont get much for it though.
