Swing setting on Lux 1500 thermostat

What should be the propper swing setting on this thermostat for central ac use. Is it more beneficial for the ac unit to have runner long times ie greater swing or to have it cycle on more often? I know there is the comfort question but I am just looking for what is best for the central ac unit itself. Thanks

The hardest thing for a system to do is start. So run it longer if you can

A matter of personal preference.

Smaller swing is better when it comes to comfort but harder on equipment.

Central Air Unit not cooling anymore - leak?

Hi, We have a central AC unit. When we moved in it was not working and AC guy said it was empty of coolant and refilled it. That fixed it. Two weeks later unit starts running constantly and place cannot stay cool. Air coming out of vents is 71 f, air going in is about 81. I believe the air coming out was much cooler when he initially filled the unit up. The AC guy took a quick look at things, when I reported it wasn't working well anymore. He said the the AC unit was sweating a lot so he could tell it was working. He also said that sometimes AC units need to run 24/7 to keep a place cool. This sounds like BS, as it was not running all the time initially. Also, it is not in fact cooling down the place anymore even though it will run 24/7 if we let it. I am assuming that the unit is leaking coolant and that is why it is not working, does this make sense? After all, it was empty of coolant when we moved in, so it must have a leak? Does my leaking coolant theory make sense?Read More

swamp cooler keeps blowing fuse

I have a swamp cooler problem. it keeps blowing the 15 amp fuse on the low speed. and then ran the high and finaly it blew, new motor new pump, it has a disconnect box on the swamp cooler that has 2 -15 amp buss fuses. They are time delay. amped 0ut the low wire at the switch and it was only pulling 3.8 I was advise to test the disconnect box so I tested each contact inside the disconnect box to see if any volts were putting out or bleeding and it wasn't which wasn't suppose to from my understanding. wires seemed to be tight at the switch, however I went to turn the dial to a lower setting(round dial) so it would kick on and then turned it back up slightly and it blew out. not sure if that indicates a bad switch. another thought could that disconnect box be so old that its contactors are just so bad although I did tried cleaning them with wire brush and electrical cleaner which I thought this was the problem. I was thinking about wiring it directly..question, if I do its running on a 20 amp breaker what happens if it trips that, would my motor be in trouble? any way to test that switch. I do have alumium wire with cooper wires. I did apply anti-oxidant on these connections, I have blown 7 fuses since end of april what can I do now??Read More
