question about air handler

after using the great info.on this site i found the problem with my trane xe 1000 unit(bad disconnect)i have a question though about the air handler in my house. the ac unit would not run until i turned the furnace fan on ,why is this? just trying to figure this bad boy out.really appreciate the help you provide.thanks alot

If u dont have the fan on. The system will ice over and drops the pressures

Why would you want the ac on without the fan in the first place?

i am just trying to figure out why,after i replaced the bad disconnect,the ac unit or it's fan would not run until i turned circulating fan (inside the house) on? but when the ac unit went out ,the circulating fan in the house ran continuously. thanks for your help...........

How do you turn your furnace fan on ? and when does the AC come on ? when does AC stop ?

wondering,why the fan will run constant without a/c unit running,but a/c unit will not run without fan running?(fan and a/c unit operate from thermostat)

That is the way it was designed. you can run your fan without AC, but you can not run your AC without fan.

total air flow changes in multi zone system with VAV's and outside damper

on this system there are 4 zones and each shows the actual CFM, The CFM amounts for each zone and overall tend to increase by 35% when the outside damper is opened from 0% to 50% (normally it is kept at 10%) is this dramatic change due to inadequate internal return vent capacity? also, with this air flow increase, due to increased outside damper opening, comes a higher discharge air temp from 65 to 69 degrees, and more humidity enters ducts from outside is this normal, what can be done to improve air flow without decreasing the discharge temps?Read More

Intermittant compressor fan motor

All fine at cold startup. Later, after the unit cycles a few times, the compressor fan won't come on. The distribution fan works fine but house temps rise. When I turn the system off, then on again, things usually work OK. "Points", capacitor, and fan motor have been changed in the past couple of weeks with no joy. I suspect that something is getting too hot and not allowing the fan motor to re-start but not sure. Compressor was tested and is working fine and has sufficient coolant. No problem cooling house when system is working. Ideas?Read More
