A/C unit making a loud hum, fan not working. Got it started with stick what now

The unit making a louder than normal hum and I noticed the fan wasn't on. I came back to check on it in 20 minutes and it wasn't on. It's been about 90 minutes and the temperature has risen 7 degrees. I turned the unit back on and did the "stick test" and the fan started spinning back up. It does not appear to be putting out cool air. Is there anything I can check or do you think it's fried?

Does the capacitor in the outdoor unit appear swollen on top?
It should not.

drain pipe design for A/C

Does the drain pipe for a home A/C need the curve in it like drain pipes for kitchen and bathroom sinks? I see no need for it but I am no expert on A/C installations. I recently became aware that the pipe was clogged. Consequently, water backed up in the A/C unit on the furnace and water was coming out where it should not have been. I recall that, during my 22 years of living in this home, that happened once before and I cleaned the pipe and reinstalled it. But, could a straight pipe be used? That would reduce or eliminate the likelihood of clogging. So we have been in our slab house how for 3 years and just noticed that we are getting water underneath out dining room floor. Come to find out it is coming from our AC unit. While running, condensation is escaping from over the rear wall of the drain pan, being blown out through the gap between the coil box and air handler and finally running down the exterior of the air handler. This is would be considered a blow-through or positive pressure system, since the A-coil is above the air handler. So the drain line for the condensate pan is just gravity fed (no traps, vents or clean outs) with a vinyl hose to a sewer drain. I am just absolutely baffled as to how to keep the condensation from being blown over the walls of the drain pan. It is almost like there is a negative pressure inside the A-coil box.
