Mini Split DIY-Am I nuts?

I got quotes for a two head 18,000 Btu system of $12k. Am I out of my mind to buy one on the internet, install it myself and have an HVAC pro charge the refrigerant? I am capable of running a 240v circuit and routing refrigerant lines. Let the opinions roll. Thanks.

Equipment sold over the internet may not have a warranty.

Not sure if any good tech would be willing to do it.

I wouldn't risk it, but $12k is crazy.

It may be hard to find a tech to do refrigerant charge for you. It may void any applicable warranty by installing it yourself. But with the amount you could potentially save by DIY it may be in your best interest. I would assume you could cut that number by at least half.

I agree.
No one who is qualified and gainfully employed would touch a job like what you propose.
The price is quite high but you are not buying in a season that would favor lower pricing.

You would do well to stick a window unit in somewhere for instant gratification and save your purchase for when qualified contractors could use some work.
