Central A/C driving me crazy

Central A/C driving me crazy

Help! Central a/c drags down electric when tries to come on. Its takes several tries before the compressor finally comes on the fan runs the whole time. We have replaced the termostat wire cuz the unit wouldn't shut off now it's doing this what can we check

Need more inmformation. What brand ? size? How old? Does it cool ? Does it cycle ?

Gibson, 5ton 10 yrs it cools fine doesn't freeze up just when it starts the compressor cycles between 1 and 6 times before it stays on

Possibilities:

1. Bad compressor run capacitor
2. Low voltage caused by bad connection or worn contactor
3. Compressor is tight. Get hard start kit added to extend life of the system.

As mentioned, check the capacitor first. If T-stat set temp reached and call for stop, but the condenser won't stop, check your contactor.
