Old Carrier air handler blows smoke... literally

Got hit with a power surge Saturday afternoon. Saturday evening, noticed it was warm in the house. Thermostat at 78, outside unit running, but no air coming out of vents. Then, air started blowing, with the smell of smoke. Turned off AC system at breaker, opened up the access panel in the shower, and lots of frost. Left it open for couple of hours, til no frost visible, and unit was cool to the touch.

Turned the breaker back on, still makes loud grinding noise, and blowing smoke out of the vents all over the house. Outside unit still came on and sounds fine.

This is an old (30 year) Carrier system, I think the model number is 40D0030300ZG. Can I just get the motors and/or blowers replaced? Can this be done DIY?

yes you cand diy a blower motor replacement. You will need to remove the old motor first to get the specs off it or to take it to a motor shop.
