2 year old goodman ac unit very stinky

hello i have a two year old a/c unit made by Goodman . it has this nasty raw fish smell when ever i first turn it on after it sits for a day . what could this be ? GI2

Dirty coil. plugged up condensate drain.

but it drains into my back yard when i turn it on ?

Welcome to the forums.

It may drain when in operation but it may also be holding too much condensate. A partially clogged drain is not out of the question.

The condensate tray may have to be cleaned with bleach.

ok thanks i will look at it in the morning . where is this tray in the ac unit ?

It's in the air handler section. Hard to say for sure exactly where it is in your unit since we don't know what unit you have. You should see the drain line for it on the outside of the unit.

i found the pan and it had a small amount of water and was fairly clean . i dumped the water out plugged the hole and let it soak in bleach for an hour . then put it back in went in side smell seemed to be gone . then i just got home an hour ago turned on the a/c and now the raw fish smell is stronger . as for the coils i don't even know how to clean them . im starting to think something got in there and died .rogram:

ok i had a a/c specialist come out he cleaned the coils but had to wait for a hazmat team to come out from his company . he found a dead cat in there . im hoping this gets rid of the smell .

no not mine i have not have any animals for about 4 years . it must have belonged to some one close by it had a name tag but no address ,

the vents are just big enough for them to get into the unit .:bad poster:
