Today's digital thermostats actually read in tenths of a degree. Just because your thermostat says it is set at 78 doesn't mean that it actually is. It may be 77.5 which is causing to turn on and maintain a temp of 78. It is designed to keep within .5 degree instead of the old stats that required a full 1 degree of droop before activating. If you system is only running for 10 min then you either have a light load on your house at that time of your system is oversized (possible, but unlikely)
