Lennox PureAir "Metal Insert" missing
Hi all,
I have been looking more carefully at the insides of my PureAir PCO16-28 filter system since the filter was replaced with the wrong item. The official Lennox maintenance kit includes one filter two UV bulbs and a metal insert. I cannot find any metal insert inside my filter box. Is it possible that the installer forgot this? What does this metal insert do? How often do bulbs and this metal insert have to be replaced?
Thanks for your advice,
lynnx

Have you read your manual?
OPERATION
Return air first passes through the MERV 16 Precision
Pleat™ filter. The filter removes more than 95% of the
particles and bioaerosols (dander, pollen, bacteria,
molds, spores, etc.) as they flow through the PCO.
The filtered air then passes through the UVA lamps and
PCO metal insert. The UVA lamps activate the catalyst
on the PCO metal insert that captures and destroys
odors and chemical vapors as they flow through the
system.
The adsorbed pollutants (accumulated gases, liquids,
or solids) on the surface of the catalyst are oxidized to
carbon dioxide and water.
Rather than just absorbing gaseous pollutants (as in
carbon systems), PCO provides a reduction of absolute
toxicity. Contaminants are destroyed rather than
transferred.
The PCO metal insert is self-cleaning with respect to
the organic material adsorbed on the catalyst surface.
No toxic chemicals are used in the PCO.

Houston204,
I have read my manual now, downloaded from your link. I did not have this document in my installation papers.
I have to move some things out of the way of the furnace and have another look inside. The metal insert may be above the filter, but the UV lights are below it -- the first item in the air path. I now understand that this is incorrect.
Thanks,
lynnx
