Condenser Motor / Capacitor Help
About 2 1/2 weeks ago my A/C unit went down, I paid someone 200 bucks to fix it... For a 25$ (at most) part. Well, the other day my condenser motor went down. They quoted me 600 dollars to fix. Well I found a motor and I plan on replacing myself. The unit is a Armstrong SCU12H42A-1, the new motor is the exact same as the the original. I was always told to change the capacitor when changing the motor. I have no idea what the original capacitor was, but he replaced it with a 55+5 MFD 440 VAC 60/50hz. After looking for days I have yet to find the original numbers on the Capacitor. Im pretty sure it should take a 5mfd/ 370vac. So the 440 should be good but is the 55? Any help would be appreciated I know the storys lacking in details but if more needs added I can do so. The capacitor may still be good and not need to be changed, thats why I'm here
Thanks Again!!!

Thanks Again!!!

Welcome to the forums.
The condensor motor itself calls for a 5mfd @ 370vac.
I was looking at the schematic for your unit and it shows a two terminal capacitor like listed above for the fan. Then it shows an optional three terminal capacitor where a dual cap would be used for the compressor and the fan.
Which does yours use ?

Ok.....so you are wondering if the 440 version is ok ?
Yes....normally a 370 vac cap is used so the 440 vac is higher voltage and is ok.
You said your unit uses a dual cap. 5/55 @ 440 vac. The 55mfd section is labeled herm and is used for the compressor. The 5mfd section is labeled and used for the fan.
So based on that info..... are you ok ?
