A/C not cooling home

My a/c has been on for about 7 hours now and the thermostat is still reading the same temperature. The filter was just changed about a week ago. My husband went outside to the compressor and he heard the hum sound but fan was not spinning. He got a stick and pushed the propeller and it started spinning instantly. Will it stop spinning again and what caused this issue? We still haven't noticed if the house is cooling yet but its only been a few minutes since the compressor has been spinning.

Welcome to the forums.

That is called the condensor fan. Will it stop again...... most likely.
It may be as simple as a defective starting capacitor or a fan motor going bad.

Hope you know a good contractor to call, as that problem could damage the compressor.

Don't run it unless one of you can monitor whether the Fan is running when unit is supposed to be running...
