Goldstar unit makes humming noise

Friends: I have a Goldstar (LG) 8000 BTU window air conditioner. Of recent I have noticed it started making a humming noise and slight vibration when starting up. This would last for half an hour. I opened the cover yesterday and cleaned the inside and secured all components. The fan seems to be working quietly. The unit cools OK so I am wondering if the compressor needs oil. There is a vent for refilling on the compressor. How can I test if the unit needs compressor oil? If this is the case, is there a site to walk me thru how to do this? Thanks for any help.

Compressors don't need oil...other than the initial fill along with the refrigerant. Not sure what vent you may be seeing as it is a sealed system.
