a/c condenser keeps running

I noticed when the attic blower cycled off the condenser outside kept running. This went on all night. This morning when the blower cycled off I went to the condenser and pounded on the frame above the capacitor and the unit stopped. Now it doesn't come on when the blower cycles on.

It sounds like the the contactor may be sticking. This can happen over time due to arcing of the contacts. Turn the power off to the compressor and remove the covers so you can get access to the contactor. Turn the power back on and adjust the thermostat so that it calls for cooling. If the compressor doesn't come on, take an insulated tool (plastic or wood) and gently push in on the contactor contacts. If the compressor comes on, then the contactor is likely bad. You would need a voltmeter to test it.

You need to check your compressor to see if it is still good. May be only the condenser fan was running.
