Central Air Unit Not Blowing Cold....

As the title states our air isn't blowing cold. It sounds like the compressor "clicks" on for a second and then shuts right down. It does this every minute or so.

I've worked on auto a/c systems many times but I'm not sure how to diagnose a central a/c unit. Could someone walk me through any troubleshooting procedures? I do have someone who can recover the refrigerant before replacing any parts if need be.

Thanks!

Can't help you with pressures but if the compressor isn't starting, the first step is to find out why.

I would:
- Check the run capacitor
- ohm out the compressor windings as per the schematic (with power off, capacitor discharged)
- If everything checks out fine, try a hard start kit

^If you don't understand these terms, it might be time to call a tech.

see my signature.... DO the tests as muggle stated.... You must be EPA certified to do anything with the refrigerant side of the system.... You should really hire a professional if you think it is refrigerant related.
