I have been using my central heat - a/c all summer for cold air and it was working fine. It is now getting cold so we switched it to heat and it is on and runniing but no air is blowing out of the vents.

To summarize, your air handler (blower) isn't turning on when the thermostat calls for heat, but it does when the thermostat calls for cooling? If so, check to see if you have 24VAC at the G terminal on your thermostat (with the thermostat calling for heat). Alternatively, you can temporarily jumper the G terminal to the R or RH terminal on the thermostat. If the blower turns on, your thermostat is likely defective.

It's possible it could also be a furnace with a fan switch that senses the plenum temperature & only cycles the fan when that temp is finally reached.

Did you wait long enough?
