Adjustable AC Filter

I house I bought has this adjustable filter in the main return.

It looks similar to the adjustable filters we have at the home store except the frame doesn't have the holes every inch and the wire mesh on either sides seem to be much denser.

A couple of questions...

how long do these filters last? Six months? a year? 3 years? Longer?

the middle piece which feels like a sponge foamy later, do those need occasional replacement?

do you just rinse those off with a garden hose periodically (every 30 days)?

I had one in a former house. I would disassemble it and take it to the driveway and hose off each part until it was clean. I guess that is one way of doing it. They will last for years. I don't know the filtration level, however, now that they have that rating. Nor do I know the restriction of air flow it presents. These are things media filters have built in and advertised.
