Carrier Outside Heat Pump making LOUD Noise

Here is the complete product info: Carrier 38EYG (60 Hz) 12 SEER Heat Pump with PuronŽ Refrigerant

The unit is making a really loud noise. We called a repair man, but he told us that there was nothing that could be done, but installed compressor shield. The The AC works fine, but we know the noise is loud and keeping our neighbors up.

Here is a video (AC Noise - YouTube) so you can hear the noise and all the pictures from the unit. Name: photo 3.JPG

We had the same problem-husband installed new capacitor-fixed it!

We were having the same issue with our Carrier Model 38YCC048. Unit was functioning fine but started making exact same noise as in your video.
Notice how slow your fan is going in the video? He installed a new Start Capacitor on the outside unit. It is now back to normal again. It was purchased at a local refrigeration company (can be found on Amazon, too) for about $40. It took a total of 10 minutes to install. He is an electrical engineer so if you are not "handy" with these types of things, Carrier has installation information on their main website.
