Window a/c unit compressor not kicking on as much as needed

I have a 4 year old GE 15,000 BTU window a/c unit. It is approximately 95F outside and the unit's compressor is only kicking on periodically which is barely keeping the area cool. Is it low on freon and a total loss?

Welcome to the forums.

Usually if the system is low on refrigerant...... the coil ices up. Does that unit use an electronic control panel with LED numbers or a mechanical turn thermostat with a knob ?
