Genteq X13 windings fried

I have a Carrier, purchased in 2010, with a Genteq X13 1/2hp motor that stopped working yesterday. I took it apart and found the windings had fried. What would cause this in only 4 years of use? Is there a better variable motor to use as a replacement? Thanks

If capacitor had connections switched, it could kill motor.
Some capacitors have one connector marked by dot.
I can have the same problem, I bought capacitors w/o dot, so I don't know how to install them right. When capacitor dies, it kills motor.

Welcome to the forums.

Those motors are three phase DC motors and don't use replacement capacitors like most furnace motors do. From what I've seen those motors rarely fry like that. Usually the end bell fails and the motor part is good. In your case it would appear that the entire motor is shot. As far as I know you need to use the specific motor your system came with.

car5car..... with AC motors there is no polarity with the capacitors. A capacitor marked with a dot is only used with DC voltages.

Your unit may still be under warranty - check, because i don't think those motors are cheap.
