fence around AC & fin damaged
I have a rental home where the dog chewed up AC fins outside. AC is still running. So I am assuming, no major leak yet.
I have a couple of questions.
If I build a fence around the AC, will 2 feet gap (between fence and AC) be enough?
also can you actually repair the fins at all?

Thanks for your reply. Do you recommend any gaps between picket? I mean no gap looks prettier. but it gaps are needed, I will leave gaps.
is l 2 feet distance between AC and the fence sufficient?

You either need to leave some gaps, like a regular picket fence, or raise it off the ground about 4 inches. Otherwise, you'll be trying to blow hot air out the top as well as suck cooler air down right beside that upward moving column. Not a good way to do it.

The city inspector refers to the manual of the condenser.
36 inches on the service side should be allowed. Restricting airflow into the condenser is going to make it work harder and the higher amperage can't be good for the life of a compressor.
I like Gunguys advice.

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up using a cheaper route. I used T-post and garden fence (pastic) with plenty of holes (mesh) from home depot. it's a quick job.

let's see if it lasts and the dog bites.
