AC Condenser fan motor on the blink ...

I'm questioning my logic - I have concluded the fan motor on the outside condenser unit is failing. The system will come on normally, but after a while the motor will start making a noise (loud buzzing) as if in a bind and will then stop. The motor is physically hot to the touch, but if I let it sit for 30-60 minutes I can start it back up; Sometimes I will have to spin the blades to get it to start.

I know this usually means the cap is bad, but it measures 4.8 ufd which I believe is in tolerance (please correct me if this is wrong). However I also noticed that when running the motor has a vibration that can be seen on the entire unit. I pulled the motor and found the fan blade assembly has some movement apart from the hub assembly (with the set-screw). Is this normal, or could this be the root cause of the problem? And could the motor be bad anyway?

System info:
Coleman Evcon Condenser M/N BRCQ0361CB
Condenser fan motor P/N 024-26020-000
1/4 HP, 208/230V, 1.4A, Enclosed, Air over,
Starting Cap 5ufd 370VAC
Fan blade P/N 026-34092-000
18", 3-Blade

Please advise as I do not want to order parts that I don't need. Thanks!

I agree with your diagnosis. You need a new motor.

If the blade slips on the hub it requires replacement as well.

Thanks for the second opinion (and quick response!) ... Hopefully I'll get the parts in before the temps start to climb next week.

Thanks again!
