Compressor, outdoor fan Pipe Insulation - Arizona

Hello, on my last two homes in Arizona, at the point where the copper lines ran through the exterior wall, there was a black, flexible tar like substance used to insulate where the pipe ran through stucco. When I had that house re-stucco-ed, they redid the insulation with more of that black tar.

Does anyone know what that substance was. I need to buy more for another house in Arizona.

Thanks!

It is black insulating tape. HVAC supply houses carry it. It would be easier to get 3/4" pipe insulation.

And use the playdough like stuff to seal the penetration in the ext wall. Can't ever remember the name but they carry it in both electrical and the ventilation aisles.

No, its the not tape. The pipes are indeed wrapped in black tape, but in Arizona, there is also a black tar used. I saw the guy put in on my last house when he redid the stucco.

It sounds like you are talking about cork insulating tape.

It feels like tar and cork.
