A/C drain lines

Drain lines from A/C have been clogging and dripping water into attic ceiling. Found that main line from compressor which had been connected to sink in laundry room had been reconfigured to join up with drip pan line. Found that this had been done due to clog in main line. Suggestion from repairman is to run a new main line direct to outside. Sounds like it was stupid to join the two lines to begin with. Suggestions appreciated.

Have you tried unclogging the existing main line? Often, you can clear the clog by using a wet/dry vacuum and attaching it to the end of the drain line. If that doesn't clear the clog, you'll have to use a wire (snake) to clear it. The clog is probably at an elbow. If you still can't clear the clog, you may have to cut the line near an elbow and replace that portion, however you shouldn't have to replace the entire line.

Thanks Bob. Repairman here today and suggested this remedy after looking at system and trying to declogg main line to sink. Past several months, drip pan has been holding some water and I have been draining it by using vacuum. Have noticed unusual amount of water in the line. Appears that main drain line has interfered with drip pan line. My question, why would you ever try to connect the main line to drip line? Have damage to ceiling in the room with sink and area where drip pan exists. Appreciate your help..
