I have a Fedders wall air conditioner, Model AED24E7G-A, purchased in 2008. It began making noise caused by a wobbling blower wheel. I cut 3 fins off the wheel to gain access to the clamp that retained it to the motor shaft. I noticed a flat spot on the shaft and adjusted the wheel accordingly, but then it was rubbing on the foam insulation and would not rotate. I removed the three flat washers on the motor supports hoping to move the wheel away from the foam, as well as removing some of the insulating foam where the wheel rotated, which seemed to work until I replaced the cover which is positioned over that area. When I turned it on, the entire wheel shattered (the frame was cracked to be begin with). Assuming I can obtain the part, if I remove the bolts holding the motor, will the shaft retract far enough to insert the blower wheel before the fan, on the opposite side of the shaft, contacts the condenser coils on the rear of the unit? If the wheel can be inserted in this manner, which I'm not sure it can, how does one put the retaining clamp on it. There doesn't appear to be any access to do that.

Hi, I now have a package unit on my home, don't like the large shoot on the side, but oh well............it was like this when I bought the house a year ago. Now the 9 y/o carrier unit is on its way out.........it is a package 3 ton with heat pump. thinking about installing a package unit myself in its place. Will need to know: 1. what I currently have and what I can replace it with 2. any tips or cautions prior to install. as I see it, all I need to do is cut the power....................disconnect the electrical and thermostat wires.................disconnect the duct work in the back of unit and connect the new unit? Please offer comments and help thanks...............ps the guy across the street offered to help, his is a master mechanic a/c certified in cars, but has had experience with his friends dad installing units.............he installed his split unit.............I will pay him of course
