AMANA-Goodman: Outside Fan and Compressor not running, Fault Code HPCO Lockout
I have a two year old AMANA-ASXC160481 4T unit that repeatedly stops working. The outside unit control board indicates HPCO Lock-out (3 trips).
I have had the AC service tech look it several times ($$). Service tech states the pressure levels are correct for the unit. Airflow has been checked for obstructions, and obviously filters, etc.
The unit will normally restart and run for weeks, When it stops, I can usually power cycle the unit (clearing the fault). And, when it works - it works great, blows cold air for Texas heat.
Occasionally - like right now - the unit wont reset by power cycling, and I'm waiting on a service tech. What is a good strategy to get this fixed ( other than changing my repair service - did it today)
Equipment is all under warranty - if only something would break ?

good idea, I can see where that might cause the problem. What might prevent the unit from being reset today, it's been off for more than 24 hr's and still gets the same fault when it attempts start up. After the power interrupt timer expires, it starts for just a few seconds, fan spins up, and faults. After 3 tries, the error advances to Lockout ( and the reason I have a service call coming, rather than just resetting the unit, and moving on) It goes from HP Cut Off trip to HPCO Lockout.

Do you know where the HP cut off switch is ? It is possible that there is a reset button on it.

No, the HP sensor is welded to a line next to the dryer. it is wired to the control board. the only buttons are labeled learn, Recall and Test.
The service tech was out yesterday and determined that the system is actually in a high pressure condition, and that the HPCO lockout is doing its job. He was a bit mystified as to why the pressure didn't normalize after a few hours. He bled off some of the pressure, and found that the compressor isn't starting... he's talking with the manufacture to determine the best way to test the compressor..
So, maybe it's finally broke?

The service tech returned to find that that (after a 7 days of being turned off), the pressures had normalized, the system started normally and is running fine. And has now for a week. Nothing broke, so nothing got fixed. After leaving gages on system , the pressures are all as expected. It's been running fine now for a week.

You know, here is something funny, I hear a odd sound inside the house (garage actually), from the wall where the refrigerant lines travel up to the inside unit when the compressor is running. it's a wooshing sound like liquid running through the pipes, except it starts and stops. starts slowly, to a big rushing sound, then as if a valve closes the sound slowly goes away. and this is a cycle that repeats every 40~60 seconds while the compressor is running. Are there valves that control the flow of the Freon on this unit. It's a scroll compressor..

Sounds like it could have been over charged all along. When the tech "bled off the pressure", that sounds like he removed the excessive amount of freon that was in the system. My other guess is an intermittent board problem.

the unit is only 2 years old? it sound like the TEV is bad, the system should be under warranty a competent HVAC tech, and not a parts changer, would be able to find it. If it is you are running sky high head pressure and killing you compressor, it won't take the abuse for long.
