Help Wiring Old 115V Blower Motor

I am new to this thread and am having problems finding answers to my questions. Please forgive me if you have seen this question a lot.

I replaced an old handler and kept the motor/cage because I noticed it was 115v. I would like to wire this in my shop. I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to give me advice on how to wire it? I saw somewhere that someone mentioned needing a 3 contact switch to use all the speeds? Do I need to use the capacitor?

Thanks!

Yes, you need the capacitor, maybe a new one. That is a four-speed motor so you would need a five position selector switch if you wanted to use all the speeds. Simplest is to use just one speed and you can do that by wiring the capacitor to the brown leads as stated on the label. Run the white from the power to the white of the motor. Run the black from the power to ONE of the listed colors for the desired speed and tape the ends of all the other speed wires.

Thanks! Works like a charm. Any suggestions on a switch that will allow me to have variable speeds or where to find a 5 position switch?

I took a quick look at the Grainger's website and found one that would allow you to select any of the 4 speeds plus OFF. I'm sure you can find others as well.

Good choice in switches Bob.

In case you don't have an account with Grainger - that same switch is available in the link below.
